Fix the Council Where It’s Not Working for Residents
Residents often tell us that it can be hard to get a response from the council, that issues are passed between departments, or that reports are closed without problems being properly resolved. That isn’t the experience residents should have — and it’s something that needs to be fixed.
Liberal Democrats believe councils exist to serve residents, not frustrate them. We will push for higher standards of customer service, clearer accountability, and greater transparency in how decisions are made. Residents should be able to get a straight answer, know who is responsible, and have confidence that issues raised will be properly followed through.
We will continue to hold the administration to account — asking the difficult questions, challenging poor decisions, and standing up for residents when things go wrong. Constructive challenge is essential if services are to improve and trust is to be rebuilt.
Our councillors will remain visible and accessible, with regular surgeries, prompt responses to casework, and clear communication through leaflets, and regular email newsletters.
A council that works for residents is one that listens first, makes decisions openly, explains them clearly, and treats people with respect. Bromley Council does many things well, but there is room for improvement — and we will work to ensure residents receive the high standard of service they deserve.
