The local party has grown tremendously over the past year. This has inevitably lead to the decision-making structure being overwhelmed with ideas and proposals. We want to ensure that as we begin our local election campaign we have a framework that channels the enthusiasm, innovation and skills of our members, and turns that effort into the tangible reality of Lib Dem councillors next year, and Lib Dem MPs beyond that.

What we need to make this a reality is you.

We are now recruiting for a wide range of varied and interesting roles across the party. The only prerequisites are that you have a little spare time and a passion to help the party.

CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE

The Campaign Committee sits at the heart of the party and is integral to our success, so filling these positions is our absolute priority. It is the Campaign Committee's responsibility to design and implement a winning strategy for May 2018, as well as responding to the unique challenges faced during the campaign. The five roles below require a commitment to attend meetings (roughly every 4-6 weeks), in addition to regular oversight of each role's key accountabilities.

DATA COORDINATOR

Creation of borough wide phonebanks, committing Minivan data to Connect, production and monitoring of KPIs at target ward level. Performing switch analysis. Provides monthly lists of new voters for direct welcome mail and other non-campaign specific target mail as required. Liaise with literature content & production to ensure correct mail merge for targeted letters based on canvass analysis.

CONTENT & MESSAGE COORDINATOR

Strategic role sitting across social media, printed literature, direct mail, phone bank scripts etc. Responsible for ensuring central campaign message is adhered to, national policy and messages are forwarded to the ward teams, borough wide issues are shared with ward teams and that best practice/ local campaign issues are shared across wards. Liaise closely with both Policy Forum sub-committee to ensure member feedback is reflected, and with Council Monitor. Liaise with website and social media teams, issuing press releases to local media.

SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR

Maintenance of borough wide social media including FB (MyBromley) and Twitter accounts, and ward level Facebook pages. Issues (or delegates issuance of) press releases to local media. Ensures website content in relation to target wards is contemporary.

LITERATURE & DIRECT MAIL COORDINATOR

Collates content and designs regular Focus newsletters (both target & generic borough wide). Liaises with delivery manager to ensure timely production. Where required, also ensures design & production of other materials incl. surveys, petitions, direct mail etc. is undertaken.

COUNCIL MONITOR

Manage communications with Bromley Council: submitting questions for meetings, FOI requests, highlighting areas of import for target wards/ local issues based on interrogation of council information.

CANDIDATES

We are always looking for good candidates and applications are still being accepted for members wishing to stand in target wards next year. Selection interviews are being conducted throughout August with final placement occurring on 16 August. For more information on standing as a candidate please click here.

We are also looking for 'paper candidates.' This entails standing in a non-target ward in the borough. We do not expect you to campaign in any way - in fact we actively encourage you to direct your campaigning efforts exclusively towards target wards - but your name will appear on the ballot paper. This could be in your local area, or maybe one where many of your friends and family live. This is a fun, easy and non-committal way of helping the local party.

EXECUTIVE SUB COMMITTEES

POLICY FORUM

Open to anyone with an interest in, or knowledge of, any area of local or national policy, members will help shape our forthcoming manifesto.

MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT

Speaking to our members regularly is key. We are looking for anyone interested in or has experience of activating a membership base to own this process. We are also looking for a member to liaise with the branch reps and the regional and national party to identify training needs and opportunities for our members.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND CONTENT

We have an excellent social media team covering Twitter, Facebook and Instagram but would like to expand it. If you have any interest in this area we'd love to hear from you. We would also like to speak to anybody interested in drafting press releases or writing ad hoc articles for our website and social media pages.

WEBSITE MANAGEMENT

In early October we are upgrading our current website to the Nationbuilder platform. Following this exciting transition, the local party would like to recruit a member responsible for managing the mailing lists associated with the site, and for updating website content.

LIB DEM ARMY

As important as the above roles are, our bread and butter is contacting voters. We will be running bi-weekly canvassing sessions in each target ward from now until May 2018, and we also require members in those wards - and across the rest of the borough - to assist with getting our literature onto doormats. If you are happy to volunteer an hour or more per month to help us achieve that, we'd love to hear from you. In both cases, full training will be given.

One thing should be remembered when considering any of the above; this is very much a friendly and sociable team, and no prior knowledge of local politics is required. The only requirement is that you share our mutual values of Liberalism.

If you are interested or want to know more, please contact Julie Ireland ([email protected]) or Rich Wilsher ([email protected]).

We look forward to hearing from you!
