Free School Meals for Christmas - *Update*

Three cheers for Marcus Rashford!   Thanks to his tireless and inspirational campaign, the Conservative Government have relented and agreed to fund food for children across England whose families are suffering financial hardship over the Christmas - and Easter and Summer 2021 - holidays.

The Covid Winter Grant Scheme will be run by local councils and is intended to provide support with food and bills as well as an expanded holiday food and activities programme. We're examining the details but it looks as though the money will be ringfenced, making sure that Bromley Council do indeed spend the money they receive to support food and bills for disadvantaged children.  But we'll be asking questions throughout the winter just to make sure!  With 4,500 children in Bromley already entitled to free school meals - with the number rising - we need to make sure that the support reaches them.

Thank you to everyone who signed our petition launched on 1 November to persuade Bromley Council to support disadvantaged children over the Christmas holidays.
