Bromley primary schools took the first step in the phased reopening of schools on Monday 1 June but initial signs are that more parents kept their children at home than sent them to school.
On Monday 1 June Bromley schools started accepting children in Reception and Years 1 and 6. Many of course had stayed open throughout the lockdown period for children of key workers.
In an informal poll of parents in the borough, 35% said they had decided to keep their children at home because they felt it was not yet safe enough to send them back to school. 39% reported that either their school wasn't open or their child wasn't in one of the year groups affected. Only 23% said their child had returned to school, and 2% said their child had been attending school throughout the lockdown.
