Bromley Liberal Democrats have announced their candidates for Beckenham, Bromley and Chislehurst and Orpington constituencies in the forthcoming General Election.
In Beckenham popular campaigner Chloe-Jane Ross will stand against Bob Stewart, the current Conservative MP who has held the seat since 2010 and who as a member of the Conservative right-wing ERG is well known for his strong pro-Brexit views.
Chloe-Jane said “Beckenham is a remain voting constituency, and I meet so many people who like me don’t think the Conservatives represent them on Brexit and other issues. It’s time for a change in parliament and we need a different type of MP in Beckenham.” Chloe-Jane has become well known as a champion for local issues. She’s chair of one of the biggest residents’ associations in the area, and has organised several popular local community events.
In Bromley & Chislehurst well known Lib-Dem activist Julie Ireland has been chosen to stand against the current Conservative MP Bob Neill who has held the seat since 2006. Considered a Conservative moderate by many, nonetheless Bob Neill sadly decided to support Boris Johnson in the recent parliamentary vote against a no-deal Brexit.
Julie Ireland said “Bromley is likely to lose 2000 jobs in the event of a no deal, and every resident will be affected by the short and long term damage to the economy. Bromley needs a strong voice prepared to speak out against a no deal.“ Julie is a single parent of 2 adult children and has lived in Bromley for 30 years. She works as an Office Manager in the City of London, facing the daily commute that so many local people have to endure.
In Orpington the Lib Dem Candidate Allan Tweddle doesn’t know who he will be facing as the current Conservative MP Jo Johnson has announced he will not stand again.
Allan Tweddle said “Whoever the Conservative Party choose I doubt they will be in favour of a People’s Vote as Jo Johnson was. It’s therefore more important than ever that there is a strong voice standing up for the Remain voters in Orpington. Orpington has a proud tradition of returning Liberal MPs and it’s an honour for me to be chosen to be the next Lib Dem candidate for Orpington”. Allan is a qualified chartered accountant, a governor at a local secondary school and a volunteer speaker for the Guide Dogs For The Blind Association. He is married, with two children.
Three Bromley council wards are in the parliamentary constituency of Lewisham West and Penge. Alex Feakes has been selected as candidate for this constituency, facing Labour MP Ellie Reeves.
