Liberal Democrats are calling for the government to hold a Cobra meeting over England’s ambulance crisis.
All of the 10 regional NHS ambulance services in England were on their highest alert level in September and October. In a recent report NHS ambulance service bosses said that people are dying in the back of ambulances while they are waiting to get into hospital. Ambulance response times are longer with most recent NHS figures showing response times in October were the longest since records began in 2017.
London's October figures show that a category 1 call which should take 7 mins is being responded to for 9 out 10 calls within 12 minutes. However, for more serious category 2 calls which should take 18 minutes, 9 out of 10 are responded to within a shocking 1hr and 45 minutes. This is shameful and has a devastating impact on families and their loved ones.
Liberal Democrat Heath spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said "The prime minister must get a grip of this crisis. He should call an urgent Cobra meeting and agree a rescue package for our overstretched ambulance services ahead of the difficult winter months.”
