The Proposed Orpington TESCO

Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr David McBride has welcomed an assurance he has received from Bromley's Environment and Leisure Portfolio Holder that the war memorial in Orpington will not be moved as part of the new Tesco development in the town.

Cllr McBride asked the question at Monday's Council meeting, after being contacted by local residents about the matter.

Welcoming the assurance, Cllr McBride commented, "As was rightly pointed out by the Portfolio Holder, the war memorial in Orpington is the centre point for the town and any attempt to move this as part of the Tesco development would have been hugely inappropriate. I have been contacted by a number of residents about this so there has been a real concern in Orpington about a possible move. I am pleased that I now have this reassurance that no move will take place."
