Cllr David McBride: "This is a very welcome decision. Many people in Orpington use the Cray Avenue bus lane"

Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr David McBride has welcomed a decision by the Council's Environment Portfolio Holder to amend the Cray Avenue bus lane in Orpington, and also order a review in to the hours the bus lane is in operation for.

Cllr McBride, whose Cray Valley East Ward contains the bus lane, went to the Portfolio Holder's meeting to argue for longer 'turn left' sections and also a shorter operating period. At the moment the bus lane is in operation from 7.00am-7.00pm seven days a week. The Portfolio Holder ordered that the longer 'turn left' sections be introduced as soon as possible. He also agreed to investigate whether the long hours of operation are necessary.

Cllr McBride commented, "This is a very welcome decision. Many people in Orpington use the Cray Avenue bus lane and have commented that it is difficult turning left in to Leesons Hill in such a small allowable space." "The investigation in to the hours of use is also welcome - even the busy lanes going in to Bromley don't have such ridiculous operating hours," he added.
