Cray Valley West Liberal Democrats Michael Bignell, Mark Moran and Harold Barker have reacted furiously at reports that the Tories running Bromley Council have not organised replacement equipment for the local CCTV system.

The equipment is currently on one of the towers that Broomleigh Housing are demolishing in St Mary Cray.

The Tories have found now alternative locations despite being told of the problem by Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr David McBride in March 2003.

A report will be going to the Tory councillor responsible for Crime and CCTV in the new year and it is believed that scrapping the system will be an option considered by him.

Local resident Michael Bignell is alarmed at the prospect of the CCTV cameras being scrapped. "As a regular user of the shops in Cotmandene I think it would be a disaster if there were no cameras there. Anti-social behaviour, crime and the local environment are of real concern to local residents like me. If there were no cameras there all sorts of problems could happen."
