Orpington Liberal Democrat Chris Maines has been re-elected by party members to the Party's Federal Executive. Chris will sit on the key committee with Party Leader Charles Kennedy and fourteen other elected members. "It is an exciting time to be involved at the heart of our party, the victory in Brent East and the high ratings in opinion polls has seen a huge influx in new members and interest. We have to raise our game to meet these challenges." said Cllr Maines. The committee, which meets eight times a year, is responsible for the campaigning strategy and organisation of the Liberal Democrats. It is also has a key communication role between Liberal Democrats members and the party leadership. "Charles Kennedy's leadership style welcomes a dialogue with party members, I am able to feed back the views and concerns of Orpington members directly to their party leader." says Chris Maines. Chris Maines narrowly missed winning Orpington for the Liberal Democrats at the last General Election, reducing the Conservative majority to just 269 votes. He has represented Orpington on Bromley council for 17 years, where he is Leader of the Liberal Democrats and opposition Leader.
