Local Liberal Democrat Chris Maines has launched a new petition calling for University Tuition Fees to be scrapped, and for a grant to be reintroduced.

Chris has been busy collecting signatures from local university students, sixth formers and their parents.

He said "The petition's really taken off - local young people don't want to be saddled with debt, and there's clear evidence that fees are putting young people off applying to University."

The Liberal Democrats have costed plans to scrap fees altogether and introduce a grant of £2000. This contrasts with Tory plans, which would see thousands of students denied a place at University.
