Lib Dems call for better transport links12.57.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 28th May 2003
Bromley & Chislehurst Liberal Democrats want plans for better transport links with the borough to be included in London's bid for the 2012 Olympic Games. They are calling for the DLR to be extended from Lewisham, through Grove Park, into Bromley North to allow residents to travel more easily to the proposed Olympic stadium at Stratford and other events in the Docklands and North Greenwich areas. "Extending the DLR to Bromley North is vital for Bromley residents to get to the Olympics, as well as the Dome when it becomes a sports and music stadium and for commuters to Canary Wharf and the whole Docklands area. It will" "also get Bromley on the map of tube links across London," said local Lib Dem Chairman Peter Brooks. The Bromley and Chislehurst Liberal Democrats strongly support the bid, which they say will be good for London. "If successful it is likely to create a significant number of jobs," "rejuvenate whole areas of London, and breathe new life into our tourism industry," said Lib Dem campaigner David Dear.
